SERMON ON THE MOUNT:

The following is one of the several sermons given by Zarathustra while climbing a series of mountains.

"As humans," thus speaks Zarathustra, "we pride ourselves for knowing right from wrong. This knowledge is relative, and not exclusively human.

"Knowing right from wrong is not enough. For everyone does what everyone knows is wrong... The thief does it, the politician does it, and no one else can claim not having done it.

"We all rationalize what we know is wrong. We do so because it is profitable. Profit is the drive to do wrong.

"We do so because we have not evolved enough. We are the link between beast and the higher species, our origin and our destiny. And, we have in us the beast and also the desire to become the higher being. Let the beast drip away from our nature so that we become light, and rise high.

"We all pay a high price for the wrong we all do: the ongoing wars, the everyday fights, and all that is wasted in the process. This escalating cost shall become the unbearable force that will drive the evolution of our behavior, and us into becoming a higher species.

"Can we make it faster and easier? Yes, we can. We can accelerate our evolution, and the evolution of our behavior, by adopting that behavior, by adopting a new niche that demands that behavior, the higher behavior, the behavior of the higher beings that we must evolve into.

"Become impartial judges: think justly, speak justly, and do justly. Impartial justice is the good above all other goods."
