If you have trouble seeing the thread as you thread a needle, use a piece of white paper for dark threads, and a piece of black paper for light threads. Place it behind the needle and you will notice the difference. Have extra yo yos? Put them together as a string for your Christmas tree or garland. It also makes a good project to keep kids busy making extra yo yos if you don't have extra. All the scraps that can't or won't be used in rugs, etc., can be skinny cut, no longer than 6" for the birds every spring.

Skirt with just a simple Flying Geese pattern. |
If you don't have time to quilt big quilts, or want to do some simple projects because your involved in other crafts, like maybe you like cross stitch or crochet, but still want to do some quilting, use quilted projects that hold your scissors, thimble or supplies. Make simple ornaments, table runners, checkbook covers, or how about quilted fashions? A quilted vest, cardigan, skirt or dress are all quick and easy and you have something new to wear that can spark up anything in your closet.

The little hostess apron was from my Aunt, I just finished sewing it, by hand, to keep it the same, using a lime green that she had also. |
Select thread for applique during the day since light bulbs distort color. If you have trouble turning fabric with your needle, try a toothpick. The wood grips it better. When you get the hang of this the needle will then be easier to use. It takes practice. A safety tip is be sure some thread is in every needle left out so it is easy to see and pick up. If you have old fabric use cotton thread since poly can cut the fabric. When quilting bring bobbin thread up to the top so it doesn't get caught in quilting your quilt.
Many quilters are involved in other needle crafts, combining them is an eye catching project. Go to a quilt show or to a quilt club meeting to see what can be found. Many talents are sure to get you interested, you just have to choose which one to do.
Some of the members of the clubs have their own patterns, and I've included a few here from one of the members in my club, the Calico Geese.
